Advanced Scenography

May 2005,
with filmmaker and actor Matt Schulze, AM developed Advanced Scenography, a series of workshops and rehearsals at the UCLA School of Film and TV on performance with digital set for film productions through digital video projections.

Two interesting examples of projected scenography in the Storaro filmography: Goya in Bordeaux (1999) and Tango, no me dejes nunca (1998) both directed by Carlos Saura and produced by Sony Pictures. I also must mention the scene Dawn of men‘s 2001 space Odyssey (’68). Reference: The Making of 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stephanie Schwam.

The workshops were built in two phases, a more critical one, focused on analyzing filmography that uses video projection trying to extrapolate and create an aesthetic model that creatively make use of digital projections on the set, and the second step was to test those methods through Matt’s performances on sets with back-projection screens on three sides.
